Caina Longbranch

Caina-Longbranch
Defence Systems Ltd.

We produce both 40mm Low (40x46mm) and high velocity (40x53mm) grenades in addition to medium velocity development. Pictured is our current new production Inventory of over 16,000 grenades of five different types just as an example, packed on pallets and ready for shipment in accordance with U.S. DOD – P.O.P. (Performance Oriented Packaging) for U.S. Government transport internally within the U.S. Government System. The metal cans on the top of the pallets are extra grenades of the same lot for further testing or demonstration. Qualified operators and buyers please inquire for more information.

A partial list of our production outline follows with more to be added as time permits. In stock inventory is also listed below.

Low Velocity 40 x 46mm Ammunition

  • 40 x 46mm Low Velocity HE point detonating
  • 40 x 46mm Low Velocity HE point detonating, pre-fragmented. Our most versatile and popular round that detonates at 20 degrees rather that 85 degrees for better reliability while maintaining safety and fewer duds.
  • 40 x 46mm Low Velocity HEDP point detonating dual purpose with a minimum of 40mm RHA penetration and with a more advanced reliable fuze than the similar previous generation rounds such as the M-433.
  • 40 x 46mm Low Velocity Target Practice tracer (TPT). This is a more advanced than the standard issue current generation entry training round. The 40mm TPT low velocity with tracer element in an aluminum projectile allows for better training effect than non tracer rounds. The TPT allows both shooter trainee and observing trainees to visually see and understand the “lob effect” of 40mm as opposed to the flat trajectory of their initial rifle training. The net result is that better visually aided training is done, at substantially less cost than non tracing ammunition, in a shorter period of time without the potential need for range EOD cleanup and versatility at more ranges at less cost per round (about half the cost of HE rounds).
  • 40 x 46mm Low Velocity Target Practice (TP). Same as above except without tracer. This is a previous generation training grenade that does not include tracer but is otherwise exactly the same.
  • Self Destruct as noted below available. Other further advanced fuze models under development. Please inquire.

N.B. We are not currently producing CS gas/riot control types at the moment.

High Velocity 40 x 53mm Ammunition

  • 40 x 46mm High Velocity HE point detonating, usually M-16A2 linked in PA-120 metal ammunition cans unless requested differently.
  • 40 x 46mm High Velocity Target Practice tracer (TPT), usually M-16A2 linked in PA-120 metal ammunition cans unless requested differently. The 40mm TPT high velocity with tracer element in an aluminum projectile allows for better training effect than non tracer rounds.
  • Self Destruct as noted below available. HEDP and other further advanced fuze models under development. Please inquire.

Medium Velocity: Under Development and definition as the NATO specifi-cations evolve and are defined. We welcome customer input, and especially operational input to truly define what is actually needed in the field along with proper launchers to compliment medium velocity.

New Development: We have qualified the “SD – self destruct” option in the base of the 40mm low velocity HE Pre-fragmented grenade. This is a combination of a pyrotechnic along with a mechanical safety for enhanced reliability and safety. The SD feature/option can be used on other HE grenades, both low velocity and high velocity. “Phase two” will modify the SD feature for use in the HEDP which is more complex with SD, because our HEDP fuse is in the base of the projectile, rather than the nose for better HEAT effect. The SD delay time can be tailored to fit the customer’s operational doctrine as per current ongoing NATO discussions.

IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE STOCK : 40 x 46 Low Velocity HE – Pre-fragmented, HEDP, TPT & 40 x 53 High Velocity TPT, linked training & rifle mounted triple purpose grenades.

In Stock Inventory: As of 9th March, 2023

This ammunition was produced in 2006 for sales and demonstrations, but was not needed to generate further sales and is thus still available. It is also very current ammunition, technically speaking effectively new, stored in pristine condition.

1) IN STOCK: 240 rounds remaining, 40mm HE (Low Velocity pre-fragmented) grenades. The warhead on this grenade is pre-fragmented for a shrapnel anti-personel effect.

Packing:    6 rounds per textile bandoleer

20 textile bandoleer in steel case

1 Steel case per 1 wooden box

Dimensions of box: 341 x 587 x 309 mm

UN number: 0006

Hazard class: 1.1.E

2) IN STOCK: 1,200 rounds, 40mm HE DP (Low Velocity dual purpose) grenades. This is the same as the US M-433, however, the fuze is more reliable in our opinion which leads to fewer duds and less EOD clean up on military firing ranges. It’s penetration is quite impressive being able to penetrate 40 mm’s of RHA dynamic (not static) like a “hot knife through butter”.

Packing:6 rounds per textile bandoleer

20 textile bandoleer in steel case

1 Steel case per 1 wooden box

Dimensions of box: 341 x 587 x 309 mm

UN number: 0006

Hazard class: 1.1.E

3) IN STOCK: 12,000 rounds, 40mm Low Velocity TPT (target practice tracer) grenades. This grenade is especially valuable for training in that the user can watch the trace element for the first time so as to understand the different trajectory of a 40mm as opposed to a rifle bullet. This is extremely useful in training and the tracer element makes it a valuable training and demonstration aid.

Packing:    6 rounds per textile bandoleer

20 textile bandoleer per metal box

1 Steel case per 1 wooden box (120 pcs per wooden box)

Dimensions of box: 341 x 587 x 309 mm

UN number: 0339

Hazard class: 1.4.C

4) IN STOCK: 2,100 rounds, 40mm High Velocity TPT (target practice tracer),

M-16A2 linked grenades, in PA-120 Metal cans. This is the same training value as

item number 3, except for the use in the automatic grenade launcher. The real value of these grenades with the trace element is that recruits can learn faster and improve their accuracy when they understand the trajectory of the 40 mm grenade launcher as visually demonstrated by the trace element, so they clearly understand the high arc lob effect of the 40mm grenade system quite visually rather than their usual expectation of the “flat shooting” rifle or machine gun projectile. Both TPT rounds save a small fortune in training costs because the trainees quite visually see this in training even before they reach the gun.

Packing:    32 rounds in one PA-120 metal ammunition can

2 PA-120 Metal cans in one wooden case

Wooden Case dimension 587 x 341 x 335 mm

Gross weight of wooden case

1 wooden case with 32 pcs.

NEQ per training grenade 0.0065 Kg

NEQ per wooden case (64 rds) 0.42 Kg

640 rds or 10 wooden cases will fit easily on one pallet

UN number: 0339

Hazard class: 1.4.C

5) IN STOCK: 120 rounds, 40mm rifle barrel mounted HEDP Pre-fragmented (triple purpose) grenades. These grenades are launched from the muzzle of a rifle with a grenade launching cartridge included and have the added value of having a ball bearing outer fragmentary sleeve in addition to an HEDP warhead in the nose. In short, this is a very versatile grenade that has the explosive and fragmentary effect, coupled with the HEAT anti-armour effect, – all in one grenade. This can be launched from a rifle without the extra value and weight of an under-barrel grenade launcher.

Packing:    50 pcs in one wooden box

Box dimensions: 587 x 341 x 309 mm

240 wooden boxes with 50 pcs.

UN number: 0293

Hazard class: 1.2.F
